MOMS Background Information

  • The Ministry of Mothers Sharing (MOMS) program was brought to St. Mary’s Parish in 2002.
  • This program is an 8-week book study, small group situation. There are 3 facilitators that lead the group. The groups have from 6 to 10 participants each time. The purpose of the program is to help women explore their spirituality and relate it to their role as a mother.
  • The program fosters group discussions through guided topics. It is open to all women, not just parish members. Currently, as of October 2007, more than 60 women have gone through the 8 week book study.
  • There are ideas within the program to go beyond the 8 week sessions and keep in touch with your group and maintain relationships that have begun.  A book study maintaining monthly contact within each group are just a couple of these ideas.
  • Quarterly meetings were established two years ago in 2005 to provide an opportunity for all the groups to come together and meet each other to broaden the borders of the 8-week session groups. These meetings have been successful in meeting that goal.
  • St. Mary’s group has identified leadership roles within the group to ensure the continuation of this program.
  • The MOMS program receives a budget from the parish to help offset expenditures that are needed for the 8 week session. Participants pay a $30 fee that helps cover the cost of the book.
  • Each 8 week session has a Celebration Night built in, this is a meal shared by current participants focusing on their role as mothers. All past participants that have gone through the 8 week session are invited to attend.
